NGF x iO: seven years of building the digital backbone of Dutch golf
The Koninklijke Nederlandse Golf Federatie (NGF) is the national governing body for golf in the Netherlands, serving more than 400,000 affiliated players across hundreds of clubs. As one of the country's largest sports federations, the NGF is responsible for member registration, handicap management, tournament organisation and digital services for clubs and players.
Since 2016, iO has been the NGF's dedicated technology partner for platform development and integration. Our collaboration extends far beyond individual projects: we co-create the federation's digital strategy and build the systems that keep Dutch golf running.

How one API service layer connects 15 software suppliers
Golf clubs in the Netherlands use a variety of software systems for reservations, course management and member administration. Before the OutSystems platform existed, data lived in silos. Now, a single API service layer acts as the central hub, connecting all 15 external software suppliers to the NGF's core systems.
This architecture means that when a club updates a member record in their local system, the change is reflected across the entire NGF platform in real time. No manual synchronisation, no data inconsistencies, no delays.
Centralising 400,000+ member records in one database
The NGF's central database contains every registered golfer in the Netherlands, together with historical scorecards, club affiliations and course data. Maintaining a single source of truth at this scale requires robust data governance and a platform that can handle continuous updates from hundreds of clubs simultaneously.
OutSystems provides the reliability and performance needed to keep this database accurate and up to date, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
Real-time handicap calculation: the heart of the platform
A golfer's handicap is the most important metric in the sport, and it must be accurate. Every time a scorecard is submitted, OutSystems recalculates the player's handicap based on all previous rounds and the specific course rating. This happens in real time, for hundreds of thousands of players.
The calculation engine handles the full complexity of the World Handicap System, including course and slope ratings, playing conditions calculations and exceptional score reductions. Golfers see their updated handicap immediately after submitting a scorecard.
A React Native app for 315,000 active members
The Mijn Golf platform is how golfers interact with their data. Through the app and web portal, members can enter scorecards, view their handicap history, book tee times and access digital membership cards.
Built in React Native, the app delivers a consistent experience across iOS and Android. With 315,000 active users, it is one of the most widely used sports federation apps in the Netherlands. Regular updates keep the platform aligned with evolving member needs and federation requirements.
Automating processes beyond scorecards
OutSystems powers more than handicap calculations. Monthly exports automatically generate membership cards for new registrations, which are sent to the central printer and delivered as digital cards via the app. Automated workflows handle club registrations, transfers and renewals without manual intervention.
As the partnership evolves, so does the platform. iO is now building a data warehouse that aggregates information from multiple sources, making it available for analysis in Power BI dashboards. This gives the NGF deeper insight into member behaviour, club performance and platform usage.
After seven years of working with iO, OutSystems has become the backbone of our federation. What we built is not just a system: it's the digital heart of Dutch golf.
