BNP Paribas Personal Finance helps partners grow their business through consumer finance solutions, including co-branded credit cards. But operating at scale across brands, loyalty models, and markets requires more than financial products alone. It demands a digital platform that's flexible by design, secure by default, and built around partner success. Together with iO, BNP Paribas created a white-label credit card platform that enables rapid partner onboarding, configurable loyalty programmes, and seamless digital experiences for cardholders across the UK and beyond.
Fully white-label credit card platform adaptable to each partner brand
Configurable loyalty programmes: cashback, points, miles, and rewards
PCI-DSS compliant architecture with enterprise-grade security
API-driven integration with partner systems and payment networks
Web and native mobile apps with 4.5-star user ratings
A partnership spanning over ten years, with continuous platform evolution

The challenge
How do you build one platform that can support many brands without starting from scratch each time?
The solution
A modular white-label credit card platform spanning web, native apps, and APIs, enabling BNP Paribas to launch and manage co-branded programmes efficiently across partners.
BNP Paribas x iO: over a decade of building together
BNP Paribas Personal Finance is the European market leader in consumer credit, offering a wide range of financing solutions to private individuals. Co-branded credit cards play an important role in strengthening partner relationships and customer loyalty.
For more than ten years, iO has been BNP Paribas' digital partner for the platforms powering these programmes. Starting with a web portal in 2012 and expanding to native apps in 2019, the collaboration goes beyond delivery alone. We work closely with BNP Paribas' teams to continuously improve scalability, usability, and performance as markets, technology, and customer expectations evolve.
This case highlights the white-label platform at the heart of that partnership.
Why white-label changes everything
Traditional platform approaches force a compromise: either build a generic solution that fits no one perfectly, or develop custom platforms at the expense of speed and scalability. BNP Paribas needed neither.
The white-label credit card platform was designed to fully embody each partner's identity, from visual branding to loyalty mechanics, while sharing one secure, maintainable core. New programmes launch faster. Existing partners gain new features without disruption. The rebuild cycle disappears.
Partner spotlight: IHG and the power of co-branding
One of BNP Paribas' key partners is the Intercontinental Hotel Group (IHG), parent company of Holiday Inn, Candlewood Suites, Hotel Indigo, and Staybridge Suites. With over 5,500 hotels and nearly 900,000 rooms across 100 countries, IHG demonstrates what co-branding can achieve at scale.
Cardholders enjoy the convenience and service of a trusted financial provider. Partners benefit from stronger customer loyalty and engagement. BNP Paribas gains a differentiated market position. Everyone wins.
A credit card application process built for conversion
Conversion was central to our approach. Based on extensive user testing, we designed the credit card application process to start with a quick creditworthiness check. A prospective customer enters basic data; linked credit rating agencies automatically verify whether they can complete the rest of the process.
For users who don't finish immediately, a built-in "continue later" functionality sends a reminder after 24 hours, inviting them to complete their application. Combined with a functional UI focused on minimising drop-off, this approach maximises successful applications.
Configurable loyalty that drives engagement
Each partner programme has its own value proposition. Hotels reward overnight stays. Airlines award miles. Retailers focus on cashback or in-store benefits.
The platform's loyalty configuration engine allows partners to define their own earning rules, redemption flows, and reward catalogues, all without bespoke development. For cardholders, this results in relevant, personalised experiences. For BNP Paribas, it enables scalable partner acquisition without proportional cost increases.
From web to app: consistent experiences everywhere
Cardholders interact with their credit card programmes across devices and contexts. In 2012, iO developed a web portal where credit card holders can easily manage their financial affairs and track accumulated loyalty benefits. Following a critical review, we expanded this in 2019 to native iOS and Android apps.
Whether checking a balance, reviewing transactions, managing card settings, or tracking loyalty rewards, every interaction feels seamless, secure, and native to the partner brand.
Very satisfied app users
The investments in UX and UI deliver considerable payback. An average app score of 4.5 stars (out of 5) reflects how users experience the platform.
But a good score isn't enough. User expectations constantly change. We use Firebase analytics to gather insights on user behaviour and app performance, continuously developing the experience and updating the app to the latest standards.
Integration architecture built for ecosystems
A white-label platform only delivers value when it integrates seamlessly with the systems around it.
iO implemented an API-first architecture with middleware connecting BNP Paribas' core banking systems, partner loyalty platforms, payment networks, and transaction processing services. Using a message bus, mainframe integrations, and Java-based middleware with REST APIs, the integration layer handles high transaction volumes while maintaining the speed and reliability expected from modern financial services.
Security without compromise
Security is fundamental in financial services. The platform was built to fully comply with PCI-DSS standards, with encryption, access controls, and auditability embedded across all layers.
Regular internal and external security audits ensure ongoing compliance. This security-by-design approach gives partners confidence that customer data is protected according to the highest standards.

What once required months of bespoke development can now be launched in weeks. Partners receive fully branded digital experiences without building their own infrastructure. Cardholders benefit from intuitive, relevant interactions with brands they trust.
For BNP Paribas Personal Finance, the white-label credit card platform has become a competitive advantage: enabling faster partnerships, better experiences, and scalable growth across markets.
