The e-bike market is booming, but also saturated. Many brands offer similar products, similar images, similar messages. QWIC, a Dutch e-bike brand known for personalisation and distinctive design, had become difficult to distinguish from the competition. After a relaunch, they came to us with a central question: how can we stand out in a market where everyone looks the same? Together, we developed a brand that goes beyond mobility: QWIC as a lifestyle brand centred on freedom and self-expression, with a fashion-inspired identity that dealers and consumers instantly recognise.
Brand repositioning in a saturated e-bike market where competitors had become indistinguishable
Co-creation process with intensive one-on-one sessions building internal buy-in from day one
Fashion-inspired visual identity positioning QWIC as lifestyle brand, not bicycle manufacturer
Dealer activation through brand experiences including catwalk-style product launches
Scalable brand ecosystem providing foundation for campaigns, communication and future growth

The challenge
How do you reposition an e-bike brand in a monotonous market in a way that is distinctive, recognisable and future-proof, enabling the brand to regain trust, grow in sales outlets and secure a permanent place in the top five e-bike brands in the Netherlands?
The solution
A revamped brand strategy and visual identity that strikes the right balance between recognisability and innovation, serving as the foundation for campaigns, communication tools and activations that help QWIC grow as a refreshing, powerful brand.
QWIC x iO: building a lifestyle brand together
QWIC is a Dutch e-bike brand that stands out through personalisation options, distinctive designs and reliable performance. Operating in the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany, QWIC offers electric bikes that are not just functional transport, but extensions of the cyclist's lifestyle and identity.
What started as a customer journey project evolved into something much broader. QWIC initially asked us to help design the optimal customer journey for consumers and dealers. During our collaboration, additional questions emerged: could we also refine their brand? Could we align the visual identity with a new brand strategy? Rather than treating these as separate projects, we saw them as one coherent challenge: re-establishing QWIC's strong market position. We have effectively become part of the QWIC team.
Why e-bike brands were becoming impossible to tell apart
The e-bike market has exploded, but growth has come with a cost: homogeneity. Browse competitor websites and you will see the same product shots, the same lifestyle imagery, the same messages about range and battery life. For consumers, one brand blurs into the next. For dealers, there is little to differentiate beyond price and margin.
QWIC had something genuinely distinctive: personalisation options that let customers choose saddle colours, grip colours and accessories to make their bike their own. But this differentiator was not translating into brand perception. The visual identity and communications looked too similar to everyone else. QWIC needed to stand out again.
How to differentiate a consumer brand in a saturated mobility market
The insight that changed everything came from understanding what QWIC already was, even if they had not fully articulated it: "The desire for freedom and self-expression is in our nature; we want to be able to move freely and show who we are."
A QWIC e-bike is an extension of your identity: a bicycle that stands out from the thousands of others on the road. This is not just a functional benefit. It is an emotional proposition that positions QWIC fundamentally differently from competitors focused on specifications and performance.
Building on this insight, we developed a brand strategy that positions QWIC not as a bicycle manufacturer, but as a lifestyle brand where design, experience and innovation come together. This strategy shaped not only communication, but also thinking about product development and distribution policy.
How to use co-creation for brand strategy development
Rather than disappearing into a strategy cave and returning with recommendations, we chose a co-creation process. Intensive one-on-one sessions with the QWIC marketing team were central to our approach. Through in-depth discussions, continuous brainstorming and joint decision-making, we quickly established a clear foundation for the brand strategy.
This approach delivered two benefits. First, speed: we reached strategic clarity faster than a traditional agency process would allow. Second, and more importantly, buy-in: because the QWIC team was involved in every decision, the new strategy had strong internal support from day one. There was no need to 'sell' the strategy internally, it was already theirs.
The co-creation process covered mission, vision and core values; target group analysis and personas; brand manifesto and tone of voice; and the foundations for visual identity. Each element built on the last, creating a coherent brand ecosystem.
How to align visual identity with brand strategy for dealer and consumer engagement
With the strategic foundation in place, we set out to develop a visual identity that would make QWIC instantly recognisable. But we approached this differently than you might expect for a bicycle brand.
During our brainstorming sessions, we realised that QWIC operates more like a lifestyle brand than a traditional bicycle manufacturer. This led us to approach the visual identity from the perspective of a clothing brand: stylish, distinctive, and focused on customer experience.
We translated the brand strategy into five building blocks: logo, colour scheme, typography, visual language and design language. Recognisability was essential for brand continuity, so we made only minimal changes to the logo. The innovation lies in the unique design language and colour scheme, which provide strong, flexible foundations for all communications.
The result is a visual style that is both distinctive and future-proof. Dealers' initial reactions confirmed our choices: they immediately recognise the new style and associate it with QWIC's brand values. This familiarity has also proven to be an important factor in recruiting new dealers, a crucial step in increasing physical points of sale.
From visual identity to brand ecosystem
We guided QWIC through implementing their new visual identity across every touchpoint. What began as a visual revamp evolved into a broader brand movement:
Product photography and packaging: Contemporary, consistent look that matches the brand positioningCommunication tools: Templates and guidelines that enable consistent dealer communicationAwareness and activation campaigns: Bringing the brand promise to life for consumersDealer communication: Revitalised materials that build trust and demonstrate professionalismDealer activation: a fashion show instead of a product presentation
The dealer show exemplifies how we think about brand activation. Rather than a traditional product presentation with slides and specifications, we created an experience. We deliberately chose a real show format: live music, a catwalk, references to the fashion world. This brought QWIC's brand style to life in a way that dealers could feel, not just understand intellectually.
This approach reinforces the positioning at every touchpoint. Dealers do not just hear that QWIC is a lifestyle brand; they experience it.
What I particularly appreciate about our collaboration with iO is that, from day one, we felt like one team with a shared ambition. Together, we have strengthened the QWIC brand, giving it a clear direction and recognisable style. We are continuing to build on this success together, step by step.

Unified brand ecosystem replacing fragmented communications
From project to partnership: a brand that keeps moving
The collaboration yielded much more than an updated corporate identity. Recognising that a strong brand must be distinctive in both visual and content terms, we developed a clear, forward-looking brand story that aligns perfectly with QWIC's ambition to become one of the top five bicycle brands in the Netherlands.
By positioning the brand as one where design, experience and innovation come together, QWIC has gained a distinctive place in a saturated market. Consumers now recognise QWIC as a fresh, contemporary brand. Dealers appreciate the support provided by clear, professional campaigns and materials. And the brand ecosystem provides a foundation for continued growth.
Our collaboration has evolved into a strategic partnership founded on a shared vision for the future. The new brand strategy and visual identity mark not the end point, but the beginning of a new chapter. We continue to work together on campaigns, dealer communications and brand activations that bring QWIC's brand promise to life.
We remain closely involved, constantly thinking about how the brand can develop further: from product design to campaigns and communication tools. Together, we continue to build a brand that keeps moving, just like the bicycles themselves.
