How to unite 140+ European dealers on one secure platform

A future-proof automotive intranet dealer portal that streamlines communication, simplifies access control, and scales across markets

The dealer network of Jaguar Land Rover (JLR), Britain's leading luxury car and SUV manufacturer, was outgrowing its digital infrastructure. What started as a successful Benelux intranet needed to scale across Europe, while meeting stricter security requirements and modern usability standards. JLR turned to iO to rebuild the platform from the ground up: a single, secure hub where dealers and service centres access the right information, at the right time. Together, we delivered a portal that now connects markets from France to Portugal.

  • Secure role-based access for sensitive dealer information

  • Mobile-responsive design for on-the-go accessibility

  • Drupal 9 architecture prepared for Drupal 10 transition

  • Single sign-on integration with existing JLR systems

  • Scalable multi-country, multi-language setup

The challenge

How do you modernise a dealer intranet with strict access control requirements, while making it user-friendly, mobile-responsive, and ready for European expansion?

The solution

A rebuilt Drupal platform serving as a central hub for dealer communication, documentation, and collaboration, with granular permission controls and a future-proof architecture.

JRL x iO: a decade of digital collaboration

JLR is transforming into a net CO2-neutral enterprise by 2039, with electrification at the core of its Reimagine strategy. Range Rover, Discovery, Defender, and Jaguar are all moving towards fully electric futures.

We have been JLR's digital partner since 2014, when we first developed the dealer intranet for the Benelux. When the platform needed to evolve, JLR returned to iO. This case represents one chapter of an ongoing collaboration built on trust, technical expertise, and a shared ambition to keep improving.

Why one platform changes everything

Dealer networks run on information. Sales reports, KPI dashboards, brochures, contact details, invoices: when this data lives in scattered systems, productivity suffers. JLR needed a single point of entry where dealers and service centres find what they need, fast. The JLR Gateway brings communication, documentation, and tools together in one place, eliminating friction and reducing time spent searching.

Security without complexity

Sensitive company information demands strict access control. But security cannot come at the cost of usability. We built a permission system that filters content by country, language, brand, role, and custom access types. Dealers see only what they need to see. Administrators manage access without technical support. The result: data security and tailored content delivery, working hand in hand.

Built for today, ready for tomorrow

The original Drupal 7 platform had served its purpose, but technology moves on. We rebuilt the JLR Gateway in Drupal 9 with an architecture that aligns better with Drupal's native capabilities. Navigation, content language, and responsive design were all modernised. The system is now prepared for the transition to Drupal 10, protecting JLR's investment for years to come.

Self-service that empowers users

New features simplify everyday workflows. Users can now request application access for colleagues directly through the portal, removing bottlenecks. An improved organisational structure maps out tasks and responsibilities at dealer and service centre level. The platform does not just inform; it enables action.

The numbers

  • 1+

Dealers and service centres connected across Europe

  • 1%

User login rate within one week of launch

  • 1

Countries added in the European rollout

  • 1

    Years of partnership with JLR

From regional success to European scale

What began as a Benelux solution now serves dealers from France to Portugal. The October 2023 launch in France proved seamless; Benelux followed in early 2024, with Germany, Italy, Austria, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Spain, and Portugal joining in April 2024. The architecture makes further expansion straightforward: new countries and languages slot in without rebuilding the core. For JLR, this means one platform that grows with ambition. For dealers and service centres, it means faster access to the information that drives their business. The JLR Gateway continues to evolve, with new features on the roadmap and a partnership that keeps delivering.
