How do you unify a fragmented b2b digital landscape into one scalable digital experience platform?

A central platform built on Storyblok and Next.js that delivers consistent brand experience across all audiences for a global shipbuilder with 35 yards

Damen Shipyards Group operates 35 shipbuilding and repair yards worldwide, serving diverse audiences: from defence contractors to luxury yacht buyers. Over the years, this diversity led to a fragmented digital landscape. Multiple websites, inconsistent branding, no central platform. Together, we built Damen.com as a digital experience platform using Storyblok and Next.js: one scalable solution that unifies all audiences under a single brand experience.

  • Digital experience platform (DXP) built on Storyblok and Next.js

  • Website consolidation: from fragmented landscape to one central platform

  • Headless CMS architecture for flexibility and performance

  • Multi-audience b2b website serving defence, shipbuilding and engineering

  • Brand consistency across all channels and customer journeys

The challenge

How do you create a consistent brand and user experience when your digital landscape has fragmented across multiple audiences, products and markets?

The solution

Build Damen.com as a central digital experience platform using Storyblok and Next.js, unifying all touchpoints under one scalable architecture.

Damen Shipyards x iO: digital transformation for a global shipbuilder

Damen Shipyards Group is a family-owned business with 35 shipbuilding and repair yards worldwide. They're active in defence, shipbuilding and engineering, offering maritime solutions through design, construction and repair. Their product range includes fishing boats, barges, ferries and luxury yachts.

Damen was looking for a partner for a large-scale digital transformation. The goal: to improve, enrich and bring consistency to the brand and user experience for all target groups. While BORN05 developed the new branding under "Oceans of possibilities", we translated those brand guidelines into digital design and built the entire platform.

The challenge: when digital fragmentation undermines brand strength

Damen Shipyards serves remarkably diverse audiences. A naval defence contractor has different needs than a commercial ferry operator or a luxury yacht buyer. Because Damen has such a diverse product range, each type of customer needs to be addressed differently.

As a result, the digital landscape fragmented over the years. The outcome? Inconsistent brand experience across touchpoints. Damen needed more than a new website. They needed a central platform that could serve all audiences while maintaining brand consistency.

Why a digital experience platform? Reaching all audiences from one central hub

A traditional website wouldn't solve Damen's challenge. They needed a digital experience platform (DXP): a central platform that allows you to reach your target groups through different channels such as website, app and social media.

After research based on the customer journey, we discovered how Damen Shipyards can best align its online services with the diverse needs of its customers. With these insights, we got to work building the new Damen.com as a DXP.

Why Storyblok and Next.js? Performance and scalability for enterprise b2b

We chose Storyblok because their DXP is versatile, secure and scalable: exactly what Damen was looking for. As a headless CMS, Storyblok gives content teams full control without limiting technical possibilities.

For the front-end, we combined Next.js with Incremental Static Regeneration (ISR). This delivers fast page loads while keeping content fresh. The result is a fast and responsive platform.

From brand strategy to digital design: translating "Oceans of possibilities"

BORN05 developed Damen's new brand identity under the concept "Oceans of possibilities". We translated those brand guidelines into digital designs, ensuring the new platform delivers a rich and consistent brand experience across all touchpoints.

With the new brand idea as a common thread, Damen Shipyards makes optimal use of today's digital tools. The organisation now offers its customers a rich and consistent brand experience across all channels.

Built for tomorrow: a platform that scales with ambition

With the DXP, Damen is ready for the challenges of tomorrow. Adding new functionalities to the platform is easy and efficient. And thanks to the digital transformation into a central brand concept, all target groups now experience the same consistent brand.

A scalable foundation for global brand experience

The new Damen.com is more than a website. It's a digital experience platform that unifies a global shipbuilder's entire digital presence. For Damen's content teams, the Storyblok-powered back-end means efficient management across all channels. For their customers, it means a consistent, high-quality brand experience.

The headless architecture ensures Damen can evolve without constraints. New channels, new markets, new functionalities: the platform scales with their ambition. From fragmented landscape to unified digital experience: that's the transformation we delivered together.
